Dollhouse Dilemma

Yesterday, I demolished a four-foot doll house that I'd been dragging behind me for fourteen years.

It was initially a gift from Melissa, a woman who allowed me to live with her when I could no longer afford my apartment. I had told her in passing that I'd given up on the fantasy challenge of building a doll house from scratch, because I'd never be able to afford one. What I didn't tell her was that building a full-sized doll house is very impractical when you don't own the space that you're living/working in.

So when I unwrapped that huge box of wood pieces, I smiled politely and never really intended to assemble it.

Melissa--I would come to realize--had a different plan. An entirely different agenda symbolized by this house.

Should have done that a LONG time ago.

Happy New Year!

Social media promotion is okay when it works, but it is NOT working for me right now. I have wasted much time and talent in 2025, creating posts, trailers, and content that NO ONE is watching. 2026 will be different. I can feel it.

I need a real-life audience to address. That is what the Teacher in me is used to. That is what I am told that I'm good at. I believe that if I can get a bunch of book-loving women in a room to see who I am and hear me out, then I can sell my book in spite of every roadblock that has kept me from success.

Hopefully, that will get "Hard Pressed" to the women for whom I wrote it.

I will be presenting/selling/signing at MY OWN EVENT on February 28. Tickets are on sale NOW. Eventbrite link is at the bottom of this page. You are invited to join me. Bring a friend or two, if you already have the book. We're going to have a BALL!

The Maker/Creative in me is ecstatic at this assignment, and it is bringing out the best of who I am--which hasn't seen the light of day in a long time. If I do it right, WAM will only be the first of many book events for me this year.

I'm serious.

I am not feeling ANY of these Eurocentric holidays right now.

I want no part of the religiosity, the overspending, the false narrative of when Jesus was born, and the bastardization of my Christ-following faith.

I am DONE pretending that I don't know the truth about "Christ Mass" and all of its rebranded paganism.

I LOVE God. I LOVE my 50-plus year relationship with God. I LOVE real worship. I LOVE ministering to God with my artistic talents.

Having said that...

I absolutely, categorically, LOATHE "churchianity" and what yt people have done to the Gospel. Too many Black preachers/pastors are following the lead of yt supremacist 'christianity'. Their reward is on the way.

Till then, I am keeping to myself. Writing my stories. Bolstering my community. Continuing to rest. Protecting my peace.

Two months ago, I had no idea that there were book events for Indie Authors. There was a false start in May that I won't talk about, but God has made it clear that THIS is the event that is worthy of my time, talent, and energy.

This is also YOUR opportunity to meet ME. Like most introvert writers, I don't get out much. Barring another event being given in my home town, you may not get to meet me until this one rolls around next year.

If WE Don't Do It, Then It Doesn't Get Done.

I have been increasingly frustrated since January 21.

Not with the Orange Pig, because I expected him to do his worst, and he is.

My frustration is with every American who has decided to "go along to get along" or even worse, to fight back with half an effort. Our elected Democrats are hanging back, telling us to wait till the mid-terms and blah-blah-blee.

Who told them that the mid-term elections will even happen?

President Oink admitted to stealing the election via Musk's hired hackers. He is literally ignoring the Constitution, the law of the land. Do you really think that Team Oink is going to take a coffee break for the midterms? No! They're going to hold on to their ill-gotten power by any means necessary.

News flash: regular rules no longer apply.

Second news flash: America doesn't fight back very well without *us*. That part is crystal clear, and it is also your problem to solve.

America is dead, and I still refuse to fight for it. I did my fighting at the polls, along with my fellow 92-percenters and the 80-something percenters who followed. My community has fought and protested for our basic human rights in this country for centuries. I will continue to fight for my community, because whenever we fight for America, America and its people sells us out.

My community wins when we get revolutionary. Go off-book. Get into strategically "good trouble."

I suggest that whoever wants to fight for America should also get revolutionary.

Like the French did when the aristocracy tried to erase them.

I Don't Do Romance. Period.

Yes, I’m saying this on Valentine’s Day 2025. Not to ruin anyone’s fun. Just to make it clear that I’m not a Grinch.

You all can do whatever you want today and tonight, with my blessing. I’m not mad at any of you for celebrating love with your ‘boo’. Not my business.

I don’t. I never have. From those early school days when the class passed out paper valentines and Sweettarts to everyone but me to scarfing candy from the heart-shaped boxes that Mom brought home from work to experiencing every man in my life breaking up with me just before a gift-giving occasion, I got the not-so-subtle message that Valentine’s Day was not meant for me.

And I’m good with that. Not bitter. Not hurt. Allergic to cats and foolishness.

At this point in my life, and considering the way men have devolved, I am deliriously happy with my life the way it is. I don’t miss what I’ve never had, and all that I have, I intend to keep: independence, low stress, and great credit.

Don’t expect me to write about it, either. I have neither the desire nor a frame of reference to have my characters explore romantic relationships. Life gives me all the material that I will ever need.

This felt good to get out of my system. As you were.
