I don’t watch awards shows. Not since 1987, when Barbra Streisand beat out my favorite female pop vocalists at the time (Tina Turner, Madonna, Cyndi Lauper, AND Dionne Warwick!) for a Grammy.
I don’t even watch the fashion shows, because no one agrees with me on what an ugly dress is.
I watch the highlight reels afterwards. Saves me hours of boredom and disappointment.
Apparently, the Golden Globes was a hit last night. Women wore black in solidarity of “girl power” (I don’t do “girl power”, BTW. I do “woman power”). Political statements were made. And Oprah Winfrey stole the show with her acceptance of the Cecil B. DeMille Award.
A rousing speech was made, standing ovations (plural) were given, and talk is now generating about Oprah running for President in 2020.
Hmm….
Though I’m NOT an Oprah fan, I do respect who she is and all that she has accomplished. If I let the thought of her running for President roll around in my head long enough, I could totally be on board with that. I’m especially stoked that people are talking this way about an unmarried woman. Let’s be real…Oprah has what she has because she’s “Oprah”, not because she is “Mrs. So-and-so” or “the daughter of Such-and-Such”. She didn’t inherit or marry into her fortune; she earned it dollar by dollar.
I could absolutely support a woman like that. Who better to lead this new charge of Woman Power?
Steadman says she’s ready to do it (for what that’s worth). She’s definitely got the money, connections, and charisma, which is basically all you need to run for political office. White women have adored her for decades; it’d be interesting to see if they love her enough to vote for her. And–I have to say it–she could not possibly do any worse than the moron we’ve got now.
I don’t normally jump on bandwagons, but this one might actually go somewhere. “President Oprah Winfrey”. Sounds pretty good to me.
